After quilting, finished quilts can be machine washed and dried. Expect approximately 3% shrinkage when washed in cold water. For quilters who prefer a vintage puckered look, warm water washing may produce up to 5% shrinkage. Because the cotton is mechanically cleaned instead of chemically processed, tiny natural plant fibers may remain in the batting.
